“I was born in the former Sudetenland (Bohemia). In 1945 when I was less than 10 years old my mother and I were expelled by the Russians. Right away I lost my homeland and my childhood. This experience has entered into my pictures”. Schwabe doesn’t consider himself as just a painter but also as a story teller who works with paints and canvas instead of working with paper and ink. He lives in Sterrebeek close to Brussels with his wife born Russian, but living during all her life in Belgium.
