I am a force from the past! Only tradition merits my love! I come from antique ruins, from churches, from altars from the forgotten boroughs in the Apennines and the Pre-Alps there where my brothers lived. (Pier Paolo Pasolini- « Io sono una forza del passato ») Today I visited the nymph Egeria, after that the Circus of Caracalla, the graves and the ruins along the Via Apia and the Mausoleum of Metella, that gives you an impression of solid masonry. These people worked for eternity, and they took into consideration everything, except the dementia of vandals, to which everything must finally cease. (J.W. Goethe “Travel to Italy”) In 2004 I heard for the first time about Cannaiola di Trevi when my sister sheltered my mother there. Since that time I have been there several times for periods of two to three days, but only for visiting my mother. In April last year I was finally able to stay there some ten days and I was able to discover this borough, near the beautiful city of Trevi in Umbria. It gives a strong rural impression, but also a residential one, because numerous villas can be found there that where built to have more space than in the medieval cities that the region is filled with. The only street in the borough is being surrounded by houses with the debris and the rests of a great past, in which several cultures left their traces. I prefer not to get involved with the history of the borough and as such I can ask questions like:
I hope these examples of beauty and culture will not only survive because it is mandatory by law, but that they will moreover constitute the stem cells of a new culture. (Maria Manfredonia) Images (cliquer / click) |
