Ed Hanssen was born in Netherlands Limburg in 1962. Very soon he discovered his passion for painting, but he was too young to explain this and express it in words. This passion, which he is only capable of expressing it through his work as an artist, still constitutes the basis of his work. Ed Hanssen is an honest painter, he doesn’t perform any tricks to impress his audience, neither does he have the pretention of explaining the world or to present solutions to any problem. He is mainly asking himself questions about himself and the environment in which he lives. His paintings are the result of his considerations as well as his creative inspiration which he gives to the world in an “un-moulded” state, because Ed Hanssen isn’t seeking the “beauty” in painting for the sake of “beauty”. His work has a universal dimension, because it is about known and unknown universes. Sometimes it is very easy to trace an object in his paintings, but we don’t know in what universe the object will be, it’s up to us to give an interpretation. As a matter of fact it is his greatest desire to see his audience reflect about his investigations, as well as his perception as an art creator, in which one presents a private interpretation, depending on personal experience and education. If it is possible to state that an object of art is only an object of art, if it is suitable of being considered as such by a global audience, then the works of Ed Hanssen are true objects of art. |
